Transnet Maritime Learnership Opportunities 2013

Trainee positions are currently available with the focus on supporting Port and Terminal operations. All applicants must be citizens of South Africa and also be prepared to go through pre-entry examinations and medicals. If successful, learners will be placed on a training programme, more information is detailed below.

The starting date is anticipated to be the 14th January, 2013. Once training is completed, trainees may have opportunities for placement in Operating Divisions which are located in Durban, Port Elizabeth and Cape town.

Marine Motorman Grade II (20*)

The successful candidate will undertake maintenance, repairs and servicing of engines and auxilaries on board a craft in port operations area, under the supervision of the Chief Engineer.

Minimum requirements:

- Qualified EGPR/GPR (general purpose rating)
- Grade 12 (Matric) with Mathematics and Physical Science will be an advantage
- Pre-entry examination and medicals will be required
- Physically fit and healthy
- Prepared to work shifts
- Willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Decision making skills
- Attention to detail

Duration of work will be 3 weeks theory, 12 months sea time which is a 24 months quad shift.
Skipper Port Operations (20*)

The successful candidate will be trained to be in charge of a vessel over 25 tons, but less than 200 tons, in a port operations area.

Minimum requirements:

- Grade 12 (Matric) with Mathematics and Physical Science will be an advantage
- Pre-entry examination and medicals will be required.
- Basic knowledge of the sea
- Prepared to work shifts
- Willing and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Decision-making skills
- Attention to detail

Duration of work will be 5 weeks theory, 12 months sea time which is a 24 months quad shift.
